Take-Two confirms GTA 6 launches without an online mode

GTA 6 will be a single-player game on day one, and GTA Online on GTA V keeps running.

At Take-Two's annual shareholder meeting on September 17, CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19 as a single-player experience on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Confirmed Asked about recurrent consumer spending, he said none is expected with this launch.

In plain terms: no online mode and no microtransactions when the game comes out. The only things you pay for are the Standard or Ultimate Edition.

What happens to GTA Online?

It carries on. When asked about online play, Zelnick pointed to the existing GTA Online on GTA V, which he called a robust business for the company, and Take-Two has said it will keep supporting it after GTA 6 arrives. Confirmed The free month of GTA+ that comes with digital pre-orders applies to that current version of GTA Online.

Will GTA 6 get online later?

Almost certainly, but nothing is announced. GTA V's online mode arrived two weeks after the main game in 2013, and Take-Two has said nothing about the timing, name or format of GTA 6's. Rumor / leak Some reports suggest it could be a year or more away. Until Rockstar says otherwise, plan on playing GTA 6 as a story game.

The same meeting also brought comments about PC and a tense exchange over GTA 6's delays; see our separate story on what Zelnick said about PC.
