The short answer
GTA 6 has no online mode at launch. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed on September 17, 2026 that the game launches on November 19 as a single-player experience, with no recurrent consumer spending at release. Confirmed In plain terms: no multiplayer and no microtransactions on day one.
An online mode is almost certainly coming later. Rockstar just hasn't said when, what it's called or how it works.

The 32-player detail
The only concrete detail so far comes from an unusual place. Rockstar is defending itself at an employment tribunal in the UK after dismissing a group of developers. In documents filed for that case, reported in early September, Rockstar said some of the employees had discussed an "online 32-player format" that was highly confidential at the time. Preview report
It's the first time Rockstar has referred to GTA 6's online plans in its own words, but it's easy to read too much into it:
- The filing doesn't say 32 is the final player count, only that the format was discussed.
- GTA Online on GTA V already supports up to 30 players plus two spectator slots, 32 in total, so this isn't necessarily a big jump.
- Rumors of 64-player sessions have circulated for years, with nothing solid behind them. Rumor / leak
Rockstar denies the allegations in the case and says it will defend itself.
When could it arrive?
Twitch CEO Dan Clancy told Bloomberg in September that GTA 6's launch would bring Twitch a big bump, followed by an even bigger one next year when Rockstar launches multiplayer. Rumor / leak He's a partner who has talked with Rockstar, not a Rockstar spokesperson, and he gave no date. Read what he said.
Rockstar's history points the same way. GTA Online arrived on October 1, 2013, two weeks after GTA V, and started rough. Red Dead Online's beta followed Red Dead Redemption 2 by about a month. This time Take-Two has deliberately separated the two, which suggests a longer gap and a bigger launch for the online mode when it does come.
What happens to GTA Online now
It keeps going. Take-Two describes GTA Online on GTA V as a robust business and has said it will keep supporting it after GTA 6 launches. Confirmed Digital pre-orders of GTA 6 include a free month of GTA+, which applies to that current version of GTA Online.
Roleplay communities, which keep GTA V among the most-watched games on Twitch, will likely stay on GTA V until GTA 6 has an online mode or a PC version to build on.
