Where is GTA 6 set?

GTA 6 is set in the state of Leonida, a satirical take on modern Florida, with Vice City as its centrepiece. Confirmed It's the series' first return to Vice City since 2006's Vice City Stories, and the first time it's been shown in the present day.

The six regions of Leonida

Rockstar has officially named six destinations. Confirmed

Vice City

Real-world inspiration: Miami.

Leonida's only big city and the most detailed place Rockstar has ever built. Expect beachfront hotels, art deco strips, nightclubs, high-rise condos, busy marinas and a sprawl of neighbourhoods. Previews describe much denser streets and traffic than Los Santos, which makes high-speed getaways harder and escapes on foot more useful. Key locations include Boobie Ike's Jack of Hearts club and Only Raw Records.

Leonida Keys

Real-world inspiration: the Florida Keys.

A string of islands linked by causeways, full of dive bars, boats, beaches and marine life. Jason lives here at the start of the story, working for boatyard owner Brian Heder. Several Ultimate Edition locations, such as One-Eyed Willie's Mod Shop, Electric Fang Tattoo and Stock 305, are reported to be in the Keys.

Grassrivers

Real-world inspiration: the Everglades.

A huge subtropical wetland of sawgrass, slow rivers and cypress stands. Airboats are the vehicle of choice, and the wildlife includes alligators and flamingos. Rockstar's wildlife checklist system, expanded from Red Dead Redemption 2, should get plenty of use here.

Port Gellhorn

Real-world inspiration: Florida's Gulf Coast and panhandle.

Rockstar calls it Leonida's forgotten coast. Think cheap motels, faded tourist attractions and strip malls, a trailer-park neighbourhood beside industrial yards, and a working port. Expect smuggling storylines and plenty of small-town strangeness.

Ambrosia

Real-world inspiration: rural central Florida around Lake Okeechobee.

Farmland on the shore of Lake Leonida, with the Allied Crystal sugar refinery towering over it. Biker gangs and local election signs, including ones for mayoral candidate Erin Henshaw, have been spotted in official footage.

Mount Kalaga National Park

Real-world inspiration: northern Florida and the Appalachian foothills.

Leonida's wilderness: forest roads, muddy trails and fast rivers for kayaking and dirt-biking. Deer, foxes and cougars roam the north, making it the prime hunting and exploring zone.

How big is the GTA 6 map?

Rockstar only calls it its biggest and most immersive world so far, with no official number. Confirmed Press who visited Rockstar North came away with different estimates. Preview report

What previews agree on is density. The countryside isn't filler: towns, side activities and random encounters are spread across the whole state, and the in-game map now uses detailed satellite-style imagery instead of plain roads. Preview report

What about the leaked GTA 6 map?

In August 2026 the hacker group CyberLeek posted an image said to show the complete Leonida map from a 2025 development build. Rumor / leak It includes extra keys, islands and counties that Rockstar has never shown. We don't reproduce leaked material, and anything from an older build may have changed. Read our leak explainer.

Things to do around Leonida

Beyond missions, previews list pool, mini golf, kayaking, diving, parachuting, gym workouts and a zoo, plus underwater exploration and a wildlife checklist. A rideshare app called Ryde Me lets you hop across town, and you can chat to fellow passengers on the way. Preview report

GTA 6 map FAQ

How big is the GTA 6 map?

Rockstar has not given an official size. Preview estimates range from about twice the size of GTA V's map to claims that Leonida is roughly three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2's world. Vice City alone is reportedly about twice as large as GTA V's Los Santos.

Is Vice City the only city in GTA 6?

Vice City is the only major city, but the state of Leonida also includes the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers wetlands, the Gulf coast town of Port Gellhorn, the farm region of Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park.

Has Rockstar released the official GTA 6 map?

Not yet. A full map image leaked in August 2026 from a development build, and fans have built reconstructions from trailers, but Rockstar has not published an official world map.

Is Leonida based on Florida?

Yes. Leonida is Rockstar's satirical version of Florida, in the same way San Andreas was its take on California in GTA V.
