GTA 6 previews: roughly 80-hour story, six-star wanted level, optional romance

Press who visited Rockstar North came back with the most detailed look at GTA 6 yet.

Alongside the Extended Look on August 27, previews from a press visit to Rockstar North went live. Preview report These details were seen or heard by journalists and haven't all been officially confirmed by Rockstar, so we label them accordingly.

The biggest takeaways

  • About 80 hours of story. Rockstar North's Rob Nelson said his most recent full playthrough took roughly 80 hours.
  • Six stars are back. The maximum wanted level returns to six, and police only respond when a witness or camera sees the crime.
  • Police know what they know. Icons show whether they have your face, your outfit or your car, and you can lose the description by changing clothes, visiting a barber or ditching the car.
  • Romance is optional. Jason and Lucia's relationship is shaped by the player rather than fixed.
  • Robberies have real choices. Blow a safe quickly and risk damaging the valuables, or crack it slowly and give police time to arrive.
  • A Criminal Profile replaces Red Dead 2's Honor system, reflecting patterns in how you play.

Life in Leonida

Previews also described more than 600,000 NPC animations, compared with about 55,000 in GTA V, strangers who react when you follow or provoke them, and safehouses that work more like Red Dead Redemption 2's camps, with people coming and going.
