As of October 17, 2026, Grand Theft Auto VI had not yet gone gold, according to recent reporting on comments from Rockstar developers. The game is still officially scheduled for November 19, 2026. Rockstar has not announced a new delay in the sources linked below. Reported
That distinction is important. “Not gone gold yet” describes a development milestone; it is not, on its own, proof that a game will miss its release date. Rockstar could still complete the remaining work and meet the date, but the status is worth watching as launch approaches.
What does “gone gold” mean?
In traditional game development, a title “goes gold” when a release build is finalized for manufacturing. The phrase comes from the master version used to produce physical discs. Modern games also require digital certification, platform approval, patches and distribution preparation, so the phrase is not a perfect snapshot of every remaining task.
A game can receive a day-one patch after its gold build is prepared. Conversely, a title that has not yet gone gold may still be on schedule if its development and certification work is progressing as planned. The milestone is useful context, but it should not be treated as a public release-date change.
Does this mean GTA 6 will be delayed again?
No delay has been confirmed by this report. Rockstar’s official launch-trailer announcement, published October 15, still lists November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Until Rockstar or publisher Take-Two announces otherwise, that remains the official date.
There are several things the public does not know from the “not gold” status alone: how much work remains, when the final build will be submitted for certification, whether a day-one patch is planned, or whether the schedule has changed internally. It would be speculation to infer any of those details without further reporting.
Why the next few weeks matter
With roughly a month before launch, players will naturally watch for signs of final certification, pre-load instructions, review timing and any platform-specific updates. The Rockstar Store currently lists pre-loading from November 12, a week before launch, but that store information does not independently prove that the final build is complete.
We will update this story if Rockstar changes the release date or provides a direct statement about development status. For the current official date and platforms, use our GTA 6 release date guide; for the currently listed pre-load date, see our pre-load tracker.
