Take-Two signs a new Xbox deal. Here's what it does and doesn't mean for GTA 6

An SEC filing set off rumors about exclusivity and Xbox's future. The deal itself is much more ordinary.

Take-Two and Microsoft have signed a new long-term Xbox Publisher License Agreement, effective September 17, 2026, according to a Take-Two SEC filing. Confirmed

What the agreement says

  • Take-Two can develop, publish, manufacture, market, distribute and sell Xbox-compatible games for all Xbox devices. Confirmed
  • Microsoft keeps approval rights over game concepts, final versions and some marketing. Confirmed
  • Microsoft pays Take-Two through wholesale pricing and/or revenue sharing on digital sales. Confirmed

What it doesn't mean

It's not exclusivity. GTA 6 is still coming to PS5 too, and nothing in the deal changes that. It's not a PC announcement. It's not a sign Xbox is being sold; Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has said Xbox is not for sale.

Platform holders and big publishers sign agreements like this all the time. Beebom reads it mainly as a renewal of an existing deal.

The one interesting detail

The previous agreement named specific consoles. The new one covers "all Xbox devices", which would include Microsoft's next-generation hardware, known as Project Helix and rumored for 2027. Preview report That could matter for a future GTA 6 version on new Xbox hardware, but no such version has been announced.

Our read

For anyone buying GTA 6 on Xbox Series X|S, nothing changes. It does confirm Take-Two is planning to stay on Xbox long-term, and Xbox already says GTA 6 pre-orders are breaking its records.
